OnTheRecord — Support

OnTheRecord, by Awesomeosity LLC

Email support@awesomeosity.com. A person reads it, so a plain description of what happened is all we need.

Requirements

  • iOS 26 or later, on iPhone or iPad. watchOS 26 or later for the Apple Watch app.
  • No account or sign-up.
  • Summaries and on-device chat use Apple Intelligence where your device supports it. Transcription and speaker identification work on every supported device.

The free trial and OnTheRecord Pro

New users get seven days free through Apple’s introductory offer on the monthly or annual plan. After that, the plan you chose renews automatically. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you are not charged. Apple grants the trial once per Apple Account. The lifetime purchase is a single payment with no trial and no renewal.

If a subscription lapses, your recordings are not deleted. They stay on your device and in your iCloud, and come back as soon as you subscribe again or restore a purchase.

Restoring a purchase

Open Settings (the gear on the recordings list) → OnTheRecord Pro → Restore Purchases, or tap Restore Purchases on the purchase screen. Purchases belong to your Apple Account, so they restore on a new device or after a reinstall. If nothing is found, check you are signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase.

Managing or cancelling a subscription

Open Settings → OnTheRecord Pro → Manage Subscription, or go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellations always happen through Apple, never in the app.

Live transcription isn’t working

OnTheRecord needs microphone and speech recognition permission. Check Settings (the iOS Settings app) → OnTheRecord. The first recording in a new language may wait briefly while iOS downloads its speech model from Apple.

Identifying speakers

Open a recording’s Transcript and tap Identify speakers. The first time, the app downloads its speaker models (tens of megabytes); after that it works offline. Tap a speaker’s name to rename them everywhere in that recording. Speakers who talk over each other or sound very alike may occasionally be merged.

Connecting an AI provider

Out of the box, summaries and chat use Apple Intelligence on your device. To use a different model, open Settings → AI Provider and choose one:

  • Ollama: enter your server’s address, for example https://ollama.example.com. The app asks for a large context window so long transcripts aren’t cut off.
  • OpenRouter: an API key from openrouter.ai.
  • Anthropic: an API key from console.anthropic.com.
  • OpenAI: an API key from platform.openai.com.

Use Test connection to check the details and load the list of models. To have summaries written by that provider too, turn on Settings → Summaries → Summarize with your provider.

Apple Watch

On the watch, Record records on the watch itself and works without your iPhone nearby. The recording transfers to your iPhone and is transcribed there the next time they are connected. Record on iPhone uses the watch as a remote for the phone.

My recordings aren’t on my other device

OnTheRecord syncs through your own private iCloud, so both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on. Sync can take a minute, and a device that has been offline catches up when it reconnects.

Audio is not synced. Audio stays on the device that recorded it, which is what keeps it private. Transcripts, summaries, speaker names and chats sync. API keys are not synced either, so enter them on each device.

Recording other people

Laws about recording conversations vary by place, and some require everyone’s consent. Tell people when you’re recording them.

Privacy

No account, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. Awesomeosity LLC runs no servers that see your recordings. See the privacy policy.
